C'mon... Broadway may be something you can't avoid knowing about if you live up there, but I'm pretty sure it's a different universe from movies for folks who don't live there and don't follow what's going on in live theatre. I'm betting it takes a news story like that or a "Super Christian" busybody neighbor who hates anything that smacks of witchcraft digging up the story to make a lot of people aware. And I looked up the play... it was written in the 70's based on a news report about some sicko who was doing things with horses. The play is about a psychiatrist trying to treat a sicko like that, and all the parts that involve doing something with a horse are the sicko's fantasies. So it looks like one of those things where the actor does it so the audience can "see into the character's mind", but it's not portrayed as the character having actually done it.
